A one volume narrative history of Tri-ang>Hornby Railways is being written for Crowood.

Much of my energy is concentrated on the transport publicity collection and a regular place to meet is on ebay under the robertatforsythe user identity. Since June 2006 I have been moderating transport auctions at the www.specialistauctions.com site. Look for what I list there.

Forthcoming presentations include:

4th September 2008 IIID Expert Forum Vienna: Messages from the Western European Fringes: An island, a city, a shopping mall.

12th March 2009 Weardale Society: North Pennine Railways (at Eastgate).

Looking Forward

This entry will prove that this website changes (the detail in these pages, especially in the bibliography, changes a lot). This space will preview coming pieces of work.

A third book about transport publicity called From Tilbury to Tyneside - Eastern Region Railway Shipping Publicised was published 30th November 2006.

I have written a book called British Railway Timetables 1948-1997. 12 chapters and not the same as the synopsis for the BR publicity book. This book is now a completed draft: 70,000 words and 410 scans. Publisher to be GNRP.

Having finished this book, the Forsythe Collection of Transport and Travel Ephemera is for sale. This is the core collection,  not the business stock or magazines, books, tickets, but the publicity materials and timetables. A run of about 275 shelf feet of filed items is involved dating back to 1838. The individual number is somewhere between 125-250k unique pieces (how do you count an issued ringbinder with its collection of loose leaf inserts also issued singly?). Serious enquiries only please. Even at a low unit price, this is not for the fainthearted. If a potential buyer is not known to me, references will be requested before viewing. Institutional interest welcome.
